VMware’s First S3-Compatible Storage

Cloudian recently announced an object storage solution for VMware Cloud Providers, integrated with and directly managed from VMware vCloud Director. This is VMware’s first S3-compatible storage offering and will enable its extensive cloud provider network to deliver new value-add services.

The solution can be deployed as a Cloudian appliance or software-defined storage (managed from vCloud Director either way). The appliance option will consist of standard Cloudian appliances (software level 7.1.4 or higher) and be offered – as they are now – through their reseller partners. The required vCloud Director management plug-in will be available from VMware in July. The software-defined storage option will be available from the VMware Solutions Exchange in late summer.

Yesterday’s announcement provides further validation of Cloudian’s object storage leadership and the growing importance of S3-compatible storage, which will help their joint sales efforts beyond VMware environments.
